You will find guidelines and information designed to assist in answering questions, giving you an idea of what you can expect, as well as what we will expect from you. Communication is crucial to the success of our group, please do not hesitate to bring your questions, comments and/or concerns to a Committee Lead or the Governing Committee (G5). They will assist you in getting answers, while listening to your comments and addressing your concerns. The Righteously Outrageous Twirling Corps (AKA ROTC-SLC), is modeled after similar groups in the United States and Canada; ROTC-Chicago, Illinois; St. Petersburg, Florida; and Toronto Ontario, Canada just to name a few. Our newest Sister Corps is ROTC-Vancouver BC. Canada (ROTC-VBC) was recently formed and debuted in August 2008. ROTC-SLC is comprised of both men and women, straight and gay. We come togetheROTC-SLC uniform Arctic Camouflage pants (white, black & gray) Military style boots ROTC-SLC Black Button down shirts. (Black ROTC-SLUT shirt as called) Show extras (which parts to be determined as a new design is created) Visiting members who are affiliate or freelance performers, will not be required to submit a dues payment to ROTC-SLC. However, affiliate members/freelance visitors must be in good standing with their home guard when applicable, be responsible for purchasing their part of uniform, and demonstrate performance readiness. ROTC Funding In addition to dues paid by members, ROTC-SLC raises funds from performances, business sponsorship and fundraising events. All members are requested to contribute their time and energy to ROTC-SLC fundraising events. Without these additional funds and participation of the membership in these events, the organization cannot survive and the amount for dues may rise. Dues will be used to cover basic operating expenses including, but not limited to, parade registrations, uniforms, truck rentals (if needed) and expenses for upcoming performances. All Sponsorships and fundraising monies go towards the general account for ROTC-SLC. All interest incurred will go towards the general fund. Skill Level for ROTC-SLC ALL ARE WELCOME! ROTC-SLC is for those new to the activity as well as the seasoned rifle/flag spinner. In order to manage expectations and preserve the image of ROTC-SLC performance readiness requirements (PRR) are needed to be able to perform with the group and will be enforced. The Visual Design Committee (VDC) will work with every member to ensure that performance levels are at a standard that will keep the positive image of ROTC-SLC. Should a member s skill level not meet those expectations, they will be informed by the lead of the VDC and additional assistance will try to be arranged. Opportunities for extra practice and mentoring are all around. Members should be very willing to help new members with skills and learning past routines. Just ask. Feel free to approach members for help or how to contact someone to help with skills. More information can be found on the VDC description page. Rehearsal Attendance While this is a volunteer organization, success of the unit and the quality of our performance rely on consistent commitment and attendance. It is the member s responsibilities to learn/review/ know the routine and to adhere to performance readiness requirements (PRR). All members need to attend the Sunday mornings 11am-1pm at Liberty Park s Northeast corner (900 S 700 E), regardless of skill and competency level, as members benefit from each other s presence at rehearsal. Catch-up and refresher sessions, if needed, are scheduled on Wednesday evenings 6pm-8pm Virtual members will need to review online training clips for any changes on routines. A mandatory performance readiness requirement will be required the day before actual performance. Time and/or location subject to change. There may be conflicts with work or private life, but it is still very important to attend practice consistently. Weekly rehearsals will begin in February. These rehearsals will continue throughout our performance season depending on the corps show schedule. To be IN the group you should be WITH the group. Therefore missing more than 50% of rehearsals or consistently coming late to scheduled rehearsals is cause for concern and member may be placed on probation If a member knows of an attendance issue in advance inform the Membership Committee Lead. If unable to contact the Lead and speak with him/her or leave a message, then call a member of the Governing Committee (G5) and let them know ASAP so that your absence can be accounted for. Group Communications & E-Mail Etiquette/ Website Get familiar with our website ( www.rotcslc.com) as we will be using our website for some of our communication purposes. We are also using Text Messaging and have a program setup just for our group. You will receive instructions on this upon becoming a member. A roster of ROTC-SLC members and email list will be given to ROTC Members based on each members privacy release agreement. The communications required to make ROTC-SLC function is significant and adding unnecessary messages decreases the ability to focus on more critical concerns. Personal emails are fine but please refrain from using the ROTC-SLC distribution list for anything other than ROTC-SLC business. Not everyone appreciates email jokes nor do they have room for vacation pictures. Membership in the ROTC-SLC Joining the ROTC-SLC A joining member will need to download the By Laws from the website or read them as their first step in becoming a member. Membership form along with Release and Hold Harmless Agreement are signed and dated either by hardcopy or electronically. $35 annual due must be paid within the first 3 weeks of rehearsal or prior to the first performance, whichever comes first. Practice equipment requirements need to be met within the first 30 days of membership. In the interim, practice equipment may be supplied to you based on availability, upon request. ROTC-SLC Good Standing One who has met their membership requirements Are not on probation Have not had their membership revoked. Probation of Membership during Performing Season: Under the following circumstances, G5 Members can probate a membership: Insubordination defined as- purposely creating a hostile or unproductive practice environment such as undermining authority, frequent and open negative comments regarding other members and other types of disruptive behavior. Failure to adhere to attendance requirements and/or continuously not demonstrating performance readiness. While on Probation: If gratification has not been met within the first 30 days of probation the G5 has the right to place the member on a secondary 30 day probation. Anyone who has their membership probated a second time and has not improved their standing by the end of their secondary term is not eligible to rejoin for that performing season. PAYING DUES IS NOT A GUARANTEE OF PERFORMING WHILE ON PROBATION. Revocation of Membership Under the following circumstances, G5 Members can revoke a membership: Theft of money, equipment or property belonging to ROTC-SLC or any of the membership. Threat or act of violence toward another member or bystander. Intoxication from alcohol or drugs at any practice or performances. Before revocation of membership G5 Members will give the individual notification. The member will be told the specifics of what needs to be changed and the potential results if the behavior continues The revocation will be for the remainder of the year and the G5 Members reserve the right to extend it longer if the situation warrants it. The member is eligible to rejoin once the term is met and they petition the G5 for reinstatement. Rejoining ROTC-SLC Leave of Absence- If a member is unable to participate in ROTC-SLC for a length of time they must contact a G5 Member, giving the reason and anticipated return date. If the return date is unknown the member will be granted an honorable discharge and are welcome to return at any time during that performance season but must adhere to performance readiness requirements. Governing Bodies and Committee Leads ROTC-SLC is YOUR organization and input from all members is important. Leadership has been divided into several committees in which all members (both performing and non-performing) may participate and an elected G5 (Governing Five) consisting of only performing members of ROTC-SLC. Governing Bodies / Leads Guidelines: A new Director may only be elected from members who currently serve on the G5. The Director will serve for a period of three years unless he/she is dismissed by the membership before the end of his/her full term. The Director may serve additional years if the membership is satisfied with the current vision and development of the corps. In order to be elected to the G5, a member must be an active performing member in good standing with at least one year of performance experience. A member does not have to be a current Committee Lead in order to run for membership on the G5. A G5 member must be elected by the general membership of the corps for the term of at least one year. At the conclusion of the season non directing G5 positions will be up for election. If no position is being sought after, then the current G5 members will remain in position until the next election. Committee Members/Leads: All members who express a desire to serve on a committee may do so. Committee members will then need to select a Committee Lead to represent them for a minimum of one year unless the Committee Lead fails to meet the committee requirements at which time the G5 may ask the Lead to resign. Committee Leads will be selected at the beginning of each performance season. The VDC Lead is appointed by the G5. G5 Meeting Guidelines: G5 meeting will be held on a monthly basis. Additional meetings may be held as needed. All five members of the G5 must be present in order to vote on any issues. Director s Meeting Guidelines: Director s Meeting will consist of all Committee Leads and G5 members. At least one member of the G5 must be present at all meetings. The Director will direct meetings. In the Director s absence, meetings will be lead by the G5 member with the longest, continuous service on the G5. A member who serves as the Lead of more than one committee receives only one vote. A member serving as a Committee Lead and as a member of the G5 also receives only one vote. The Director votes only in the case of a tie. By Law / Corp Revisions & Amendments A member must be in good standing in order to suggest a revision or an amendment. When a member suggests a revision / amendment, the member must also present at least one option for addressing suggested proposal to the Committee Lead(CL). If needed the Committee Lead may consult with the G5 regarding the proposal. Should a member desire further consideration of their proposal they must do the following: 1) submit a written proposal to the G5 secretary no later then 48 hours prior to the next meeting which will then be added to the Director s Meeting agenda. 2) The member is required to attend that meeting and address their proposal. 3) If at the time when the proposal is called and the member is absent, then the proposal is automatically closed. 4) If the proposal has been closed, the member will have to resubmit their proposal for a future Director s meeting. A suggested proposal must receive an affirmative vote from the majority of the Committee Leads and G5 in attendance at Director s meeting at the time of the voting. ting Guidelines: G5 meeting will be held on a monthly basis.
